For the seventh straight year, UC Irvine has been ranked as one of America’s top 10 public universities by U.S. News & World Report.

The 2022 “Best Colleges” list ranks UCI ninth among public universities. Others in the top 10 include UCLA, UC Berkeley and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

The magazine’s annual rankings, which began in 1983, are the most widely quoted college rankings in the U.S. They are based on several factors, including test scores, faculty resources (salary, degree level and class size), graduation rates and peer assessments by presidents, provosts and admissions deans at other institutions.

UCI opened in 1965 after Irvine Company donated 1,000 acres for the campus as the hub of the new city of Irvine, master-planned around education.
