At Duff’s, you’re the Ace of Cakes

“Ace of Cakes” fan alert: Food Network star Duff Goldman is opening one of his popular Duff’s Cakemix shops at Irvine Spectrum Center this month.

This will be the first location in Orange County. There are four others in Los Angeles, several of which have served as locations for episodes of the reality TV shows “Dance Moms” and “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

If you’ve never been to a Duff’s, it’s like a Color Me Mine, only with cakes and cupcakes instead of ceramics. You pick a pre-baked cake or cupcake (confetti or chocolate), and Duff’s provides all the icing (buttercream or fondant), tools and toppings you need to turn it into your own work of art. And then eat it.

“I’m thrilled to share my passion for cake decorating with the Orange County community,” founder Goldman says. “Irvine Spectrum is a place where families go to have fun, so it’s the perfect location for our creative, do-it-yourself cake decorating studio.”

Some of the more elaborate creations wind up on Duff’s Instagram (@duffscakemix), which has 150,000 followers.

Currently, unicorns are all the rage. But the most popular design, says CEO Scott Dilloff, is people’s own dogs.

In addition to birthday celebrations and drop-ins, Duff’s is popular for team-building events and company parties.
