An estimated 100 million TV viewers saw former Irvine student Christine Sun Kim during this year’s Super Bowl.

Kim, a 1998 graduate of University High School, delivered an American Sign Language rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” alongside singer Demi Lovato before kickoff.

Kim had to submit an audition video, which the NFL used to evaluate her style, expression level and delivery.

“Never in my life would I have imagined doing this,” said Kim, an artist who’s been featured in The New York Times and led a 2015 Ted Talk. “Now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve ever been to an NFL game.”
