BOMMER CANYON FULL MOON HIKE

Experience the serenity of Bommer Canyon under a full moon during this moderate-paced hike. You’ll experience mature coastal sage scrub, rough rock outcrops and sunset views overlooking the city of Irvine and the hillsides to the north. This hike includes 700 feet of total climbing elevation with several very steep inclines. The steepest section ascends 300 feet in a quarter-mile.
SUNSPOT SPOTTING
Upper Newport Bay

The year 2020 marked the beginning of a new 11-year solar cycle that will see a dramatic increase in the number of sunspots over the next four to six years. During this family-friendly program, you will learn all about sunspots, their effect on the planet and how to safely view them. You will also get to make your own sunspot viewer and use a specially filtered telescope. Call 949-923-2277 for information.
STARRY, STARRY NIGHT

7:30-9:30 p.m., June 26
Join this interpretive hike under the stars at Black Star Canyon. Immerse yourself in a scaled-down version of our solar system. Test your imagination in naming the constellations. Reenact the struggle between Orion and the Scorpion. The hike will average 2-3 miles round trip at an easy pace. This activity is designed with kids ages 5 to 12 in mind, though everyone is welcome.
