Sara Evans, who’s earned the No. 1 spot on the Billboard country songs chart five times, will take the Irvine Barclay Theatre stage on Dec. 3. We asked about her 25-year career and upcoming concert.
How did you get started?
When I was about 5, my two older brothers were learning to play guitar. They played country hits, and I started singing along. Later, my mom decided to put a band together with my brothers, me and a few other musicians and we played bars, honky-tonks, weddings, you name it.
Your most memorable moment as a musician?
When I won the Academy of Country Music’s top female vocalist. It was such a validation for me and something I’d dreamed about since I was a little girl.
What motivates you?
I love to push myself to do better all the time. I try to sing better live than I do on my albums and always push myself to grow and evolve when recording music. I feel like I’m just getting started and have so much ahead of me.
Tell us about your upcoming show at Irvine Barclay Theatre.
I’m excited to bring our ‘Go Tell It on the Mountain’ Christmas tour to Irvine. We play songs from my ‘At Christmas’ album, holiday classics, some surprises and a few of my non-Christmas hits.
