Emmy and Grammy award-winning comedian Tiffany Haddish takes the stage at Irvine Improv on Aug. 18-20.
Her breakout role in the 2017 hit comedy “Girls Trip” catapulted her to fame. She starred as the scene-stealing Dina alongside Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah and Regina Hall – earning a spot on The New Yorker’s list of The Best Movie Performances of the Century So Far.
She has appeared in the NBC sitcom “The Carmichael Show,” the TBS comedy series “The Last O.G.” and Apple TV+’s “The Afterparty.” She also executive-produced the Netflix animated sitcom “Tuca & Bertie.”
Growing up in foster care in South Central Los Angeles, Haddish used humor to protect herself against bullies.
“I always used my skills of comedy to get out of situations and help me get through life,” Haddish has said.
Prompted by Haddish’s excessive talking and imaginary friends, her social worker told Haddish to attend psychiatric therapy or Laugh Factory’s Comedy Camp. She enrolled in the comedy camp, where she honed her skills and met her mentors.
“My whole world changed; my whole perspective changed,” Haddish said.
Her memoir, “The Last Black Unicorn,” made the New York Times Best Sellers list in 2017. Haddish founded the She Ready Foundation to help and support foster youth in Southern California, where she currently lives.
