Sessions co-founder brings scratch kitchen, craft beer to Woodbridge

Matt Meddock grew up hanging out at Woodbridge Village Center.

“We’d play on the frog statues and walk around the lake,” he says. “Mom and Dad would take us to the candy store, the movies.”

So when he heard that Irvine Company was investing millions in the center, he called “immediately.”

Meddock, 39, is co-founder of Sessions West Coast Deli, a hip, gourmet sandwich shop. He opened his first one on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach in 2014 and his second across from the Huntington Beach Pier in 2015.

It seemed like the perfect time and place for a third.

“We do more in sales than the Newport and Huntington stores combined. That speaks volumes about how the Woodbridge community has taken us in.”

His parents still live in Woodbridge, in the house he grew up in, as do “tons” of old friends. “So family is in and out of the restaurant,” he says. “It’s kinda cool.”

The Sessions patio has views of North Lake, and a fire pit for ambiance at night. “We designed the place for evening,”

Meddock says. “You can grab a glass of wine or a beer and hang out as the sun is going down.
