Irvine figure skater Nathan Chen won his 5th straight U.S championship title last month – the most by anyone since the 1950s.

Irvine figure skater Nathan Chen won his fifth straight U.S. championship title last month – the most by anyone since the 1950s.

He trains at the Orange County Great Park ice arena, one of the top figure-skating training facilities in the world. Great Park skaters swept medals at the ISU Grand Prix Skate America competition in October, with Chen winning the men’s title and Mariah Bell winning the women’s title.

Chen, 21, a student at Yale University, is a favorite to win gold at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. He hasn’t lost a competition since finishing fifth at the 2018 Olympics.
