Irvine is one of three cities to receive $1 million in grant funding as part of an innovative new effort aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. Developed and funded by the Empowerment Institute, the goal of the Cool City Challenge is to inspire innovative paths to carbon neutrality through communitywide initiatives. The challenge takes a hands-on approach, calling for 200 community participants to serve as team leaders who will champion a sustainable lifestyle in their neighborhoods. The city has partnered with over 25 local organizations to put its action plan in motion.
