For the fourth year in a row, University High has won first place in the regional round of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl.

Hosted by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the tournament featured 20 teams from Southern California and was held virtually for the first time.

Contestants faced complex math and science questions, ranging from biology to chemistry to earth science and beyond.

“It’s really high stress, but learning about science and working with others who also love science is really fun,” says senior Nicholas Ouyang, team captain for University High.

University High will compete in the national tournament this month.
