Irvine-based Terran Orbital recently deployed six small satellites into low Earth orbit for a pioneering mission.
The satellites were launched on Elon Musk’s SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Three of the satellites were designed, built and tested in Irvine for NASA, with whom Terran closely works.
Terran, which leases nearly 90,000 square feet of office space at 400 Spectrum, is the world’s leading provider of nanosatellites and microsatellites. Last quarter, the company signed $162 million in new contracts, according to the Orange County Business Journal.
Finnish satellite maker Iceye, whose U.S. headquarters is in Irvine, also launched five new satellites on the SpaceX rocket.
