Local high school students showcased their biomedical research at an event hosted by University Lab Partners. ULP’s third annual ROCK the Science event highlighted achievements of 50 students from its Summer Research and high school internship programs and featured a keynote address by Uma Lakshmipathy, a senior director at Thermo Fisher Scientific, and panel discussions on life sciences careers.

Students participating in ULP’s Summer Research Program presented their research projects to a panel of judges. Winning projects explored topics that included Zika-induced microcephaly, Alzheimer’s disease and Type 1 diabetes. Four high school interns were honored with ULP’s Presidential Volunteer Service Award and a $500 scholarship for their contributions.
