Four IUSD schools receive state honor

Four Irvine Unified schools were named 2025 California Distinguished Schools, the state’s highest honor for public campuses.

Bonita Canyon Elementary, Eastshore Elementary, Portola Springs Elementary and Plaza Vista School were among 336 elementary schools honored this year.

The California Distinguished Schools program, administered annually by the state’s Department of Education, celebrates schools for closing achievement gaps and demonstrating exceptional student performance. Honorees are selected based on performance indicators that include test scores, suspension rates and school conditions.

The honorees will be recognized at a ceremony on May 30 in Anaheim.
