Irvine has again been recognized among the nation’s most sustainable cities. WalletHub’s 2025 “Greenest Cities in America” report ranked Irvine No. 4 overall and first in Southern California, citing its leadership in clean energy and environmental quality.
The study compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 28 metrics, including greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy use and green job growth. Irvine placed first nationwide in the energy sources category and fourth in environment, reflecting its strong use of renewable power and commitment to clean air, water and open space.
Environmental stewardship has been part of Irvine’s foundation since its earliest planning, as the city’s Master Plan called for parks, open space and trails woven throughout neighborhoods.
