How long have you been an IRC volunteer?

Since 2018. My first hike ever with the group, I met my future husband, who was a trail guide. Greg proposed on that date exactly a year later. Meeting like-minded people is one of the best things about being an IRC volunteer.

What do you like most about leading a hike?

I love seeing new participants in awe of the land, wildlife or wildflowers for the very first time; it is always so special. You see that look in their eye, and you know they’ll be back.

What is your favorite hike?

Perhaps the Twilight Beginner Cardio Hike in Limestone Canyon would be the most special, as it was the first program I created on a trail I love, at a time of day that I love.

Do you have a favorite moment from the trails?

Number one would be a day I was leading a group and a ranger called me over and asked me to hold a baby owl while it was being banded. The second would be when I saw 20-plus deer, and two bucks had their antlers locked.

What drives you to continue hiking?

Every time there’s something new and wonderful to experience. It’s beyond amazing that this land is here for us all to enjoy. I feel blessed every day that I can enjoy it and share it with others.
