Super Irvine opens

Persian sweets and cakes are just a few of the specialties at new, family-owned Super Irvine International Market in Parkview Center.

Super Irvine International Market has reopened at a new location in Parkview Center, drawing a packed crowd for the beloved market’s return. A line stretched outside the store for the grand opening, as DJ music echoed through the aisles and customers explored the expanded space.

This marks a new chapter for the family-owned market, which first opened in Irvine in 1996 and closed its original location three years ago. The reopening combines a larger, more modern space with new offerings while preserving the community feel that made it a local favorite.

“Irvine is truly a melting pot of cultures, and Super Irvine is a place where those cultures grow stronger together under one roof,” said Mahta Ariarad, who runs the business with her sister, Ana, and their father, Ali.

Inside, wide aisles are organized by region — Asian, European, Indian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean — with a Turkish coffee and juice stand adding to the international flavor. A Boar’s Head deli serves classic and Persian-inspired items such as kotlet sandwiches, kuku sabzi and Persian pastrami. A full-service butcher shop offers halal and kosher options. Nearby, customers lined up for sangak — traditional Persian flatbread baked on hot stones — served fresh from a visible oven. A pastry counter offered Persian sweets and cakes.

The new location also debuts a Mediterranean restaurant led by the second-generation owners.

“It really feels like a community gathering place,” said Ellie Taeed, who was shopping with her mother, Mahin. “The aisles are wider, it’s easier to move around, and the produce and meats are fresher than anywhere else. We love it here.”

Super Irvine is located at 5311 University Drive and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
