In 1965, the Los Angeles Times published this photo of Dr. Marjorie Caserio, a founding faculty member and assistant professor of organic chemistry at UC Irvine. The university’s first female professor, Caserio was beloved for her teaching excellence. She became chair of the Department of Chemistry, co-authored a widely used textbook and later became vice chancellor of academic affairs at UC San Diego.
