Irvine has broken ground on a $42 million expansion at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center, adding an Olympic-sized competition pool, a children’s splash pad and NinjaCross – an obstacle run suspended above the water.
The project also includes a new parking lot along Walnut Avenue, covered bleachers for spectators and additional training and locker rooms. The center’s swimming and water safety classes already serve more than 10,000 youth each year, and officials expect the extra space to accommodate even more.
Construction is scheduled to wrap up in spring 2028. The center will stay open throughout.
