Beckman High School student Steve Han has won the $6,000 grand prize in the 11th annual international ARTEFFECT competition.
The global contest challenged middle and high school students to celebrate “Unsung Heroes” through visual art. Han took the top spot among 46 worldwide winners, beating out entries from countries such as South Korea, Germany, Lithuania, Japan and India.
His winning piece – “The Hands of Reconstruction, Frances Perkins” – uses colored pencil, marker and pen to depict the first female U.S. Cabinet member, who championed New Deal labor reforms.
