About 455 runners of all ages took part in the Run Wild 5K event at the OC Zoo in Irvine Regional Park last month. Proceeds from the 5K are earmarked to enhance the habitat for Chanelle, the black bear housed at the zoo.
The OC Zoo is home to more than 100 animals, and for a day, many families and friends had fun putting on some animal-themed gear and running through the grounds during 5K and 1K walks/runs.
Another race is planned for later this year, on Nov. 7. All participants will receive free zoo entry afterward.
“We hope to have an even larger turnout and turn up the volume on our donations,” organizer Lauren Earl says.
