Irvine income growth among fastest in U.S.

Irvine residents are seeing their paychecks outpace inflation faster than almost anywhere in the nation, according to a SmartAsset study.

The study ranked 94 major cities by how much local income grew against rising prices over a two-year span. Irvine came in seventh nationally and second in California, with median household income climbing 10.6% after inflation, to $145,731.

Irvine also ranks among the wealthiest cities in the country: 34.8% of households here earn $200,000 or more, the third-highest nationwide, behind San Jose and San Francisco.
