IUSD students showcase innovation at annual science fair

Innovation and curiosity were on display as Irvine Unified School District students presented hundreds of original research and engineering projects at the 45th annual IUSD Science Fair.

Students in grades 6-12 presented 413 projects, with local STEM professionals volunteering as judges and mentors. From that group, 150 projects advanced to the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair.

Rancho San Joaquin Middle School seventh grader Harrison Gu earned the Lemelson Early Inventor Prize for developing an adaptive grid-dimming visor to reduce sun glare, while a Turtle Rock Elementary team received Broadcom Foundation recognition for creating a bike safety and surrounding-awareness sensor.
