A new list of America’s greenest cities includes Irvine in the top 5.
But then, Irvine has been green since before green was cool. Sixty years ago, the Irvine Master Plan envisioned a livable city of parks and open space connected by trails and bike paths.
As a result, Irvine is now recognized as one of America’s most environmentally friendly cities.
The master-planned city ranks No. 4 in the U.S. in the use of sustainable practices that improve the environment and public health, according to a national study by the personal finance website WalletHub.
The study ranks America’s top 100 cities based on 26 “green” indicators, including open space, bikeways and use of renewable energy.
Irvine tops Denver, Minneapolis and Seattle, among others.
