A new aquatics center approved by the City Council will bring USA Water Polo to Irvine’s Great Park.

The facility, part of a $250 million sports complex, will be the new headquarters of USA Water Polo and will serve as the training ground for the 2024 Olympic team as it prepares for the Paris Games.

The pool facilities also will be available for recreational use by residents who sign up for city programs that will be offered at the site.

The plan also includes a field house for basketball and volleyball, as well as a parking structure.

Construction on the facility is slated to begin in 2021.
