Mayor reveals plans for city’s 50th anniversary

Mayor Farrah Khan announced the City of Irvine’s 50th anniversary at her inaugural state of the City address.

Mayor Farrah Khan announced the City of Irvine’s 50th anniversary at her inaugural State of the City address late last month. Her remarks kicked off a yearlong celebration that will honor the city’s rich history and pioneering Master Plan.

“In 1970, when the Irvine Company announced plans for the largest planned city in the Western Hemisphere, everyone took notice,” she said. Irvine is now “recognized as one of the best places to live in the United States, as one of the safest cities in America, and also named as one of the happiest places to live.”

The mayor unveiled a commemorative logo and announced several activities to celebrate 50 years of incorporation. Activities throughout the year include photography, dance, music and art contests, volunteer opportunities and a community celebration.
