Sgt. Pepperoni’s Pizza Store, a popular Newport Beach restaurant co-owned by the former drummer of the band Sugar Ray, announced it will open an Irvine store at Campus Plaza near UC Irvine.

Established in 1976, the restaurant is known for its New York-style pizza with a California twist.

Musician Stan Frazier and three Newport Beach friends grew up eating at the original Sgt. Pepperoni’s in Newport Beach and bought it in 2013, one year after Frazier won the cooking reality show “Chef Race: U.K. vs. U.S.”

OC Register readers voted it the best family-friendly restaurant in 2020. The Irvine store is slated to open this month.
