Sierra Vista wins Science Olympiad

Sierra Vista Middle School became the first in Irvine Unified School District history to win a national title at the Science Olympiad, one of the most prestigious science, technology engineering and math competitions in the U.S.

Sierra Vista Middle School became the first in Irvine Unified School District history to win a national title at the Science Olympiad, one of the most prestigious science, technology engineering and math competitions in the U.S.

Sierra Vista finished first in the 38th annual Science Olympiad National Tournament, which was held virtually this year. The middle school division consisted of 60 schools that advanced from state-level competitions. Over 7,800 middle school and high school teams from 50 U.S. states compete each year.

The tournament consists of knowledge-based events as well as lab and hands-on events. Sierra Vista dominated the competition by finishing within the top three in 16 out of 23 events, including five first-place finishes.
