UCI’s art school hires new dean

UC Irvine has hired Tiffany Lopez to lead its renowned Claire Trevor School of the Arts.

Lopez will replace Dean Stephen Barker, who is retiring. She will assume the post on July 1.

Lopez currently serves as vice provost at Arizona State University and was previously director of ASU’s School of Film, Dance and Theatre. She also helped found the acclaimed Sidney Poitier New American Film School and served as its first director.

Lopez holds a bachelor’s degree in English from California State University, Sacramento, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in English from UC Santa Barbara.

UCI Chancellor Howard Gillman praised her achievements, saying she will “advance the school’s excellence and enhance its far-reaching impact across campus and in the community.”
