Woodbridge takes 3rd place in state academic decathlon

Woodbridge High finished third among 84 schools in the California Academic Decathlon, after winning its fifth Orange County competition in six years.

“I’m proud of this team for striving to be the best they could possibly be,” Coach Mike Nakaue said.

The Academic Decathlon is a 10-event contest in which teams of nine compete in the areas of language and literature, science, mathematics, social science, economics, art, music, essay, interview and speech. Each team must include three students with GPAs of 3.75 or above, three students with GPAs of 3.00 to 3.74, and three students with GPAs of 2.99 or below.

Woodbridge features students Risha Bhat, Iris Shen, Nathan Spear, Nathan Gov, Melissa Tsaowimonsiri, Victory Sun, Jason Shih, Melvin Wu and Inaya Nayaz.
