University Lab Partners offers startups access to “wet” lab space and equipment that’s typically too expensive for them to buy. This includes access to tissue cultures, freezer farms, and microscope and spectroscopy equipment. Irvine is home to a thriving biomedical industry but had no wet labs for startups to safely handle chemicals and materials used in experiments. The lab’s goal is to keep startups from moving to other tech hubs like San Diego or L.A.

In January, University Lab Partners also won a $3 million federal grant to purchase new scientific equipment.
