Mathis Brothers adds to Irvine’s strong retail market

Mathis Brothers Furniture store’s new showroom at The Market Place – about the size of three football fields – is Orange County’s largest retail lease in five years. The 160,000-square-foot showroom features a full bar, an 8,000-square-foot atrium of outdoor furniture, and more than 10,000 home furnishings on display.

It also adds a significant boost to the city’s economy. Mathis Brothers expects to create more than 140 jobs, while large purchases, like bedroom sets and entertainment centers, bring significant sales tax revenue to the city to help fund the Police Department and local parks. Its new showroom offers more than 50 brands of furniture, such as Ashley, La-Z-Boy and Bernhardt, all backed with an offer to pay double the difference if the customer finds an item elsewhere for less.

“The Market Place has a special magnetism to it,” says Rit Mathis, grandson of the co-founder. “And Irvine is a fantastic place to live. We are excited to be part of that.”
