Hoag opens birthing suites in Irvine

Brand new birthing suites at Hoag’s Irvine hospital welcomed its first baby, Riley, soon after opening in December.

Equipped with home-like amenities and the latest technology, the Fudge Family Birthing Suites unit lets expectant mothers go through labor, delivery and recovery all in the same room.

Now, mothers who will give birth at Hoag no longer have to drive to Newport Beach.

“The suites are designed by women for women to nurture them through this incredible moment,” Dr. Allyson Brooks of Hoag Women’s Health Institute said.

The 12 private birthing suites, two C-section operating rooms and a nursery are staffed 24/7 by doctors and nurse midwives. There’s also an outdoor walking garden.

New mothers can use Hoag’s first-of-its-kind virtual reality program called Nurture VR. The program offers 14 weeks’ worth of educational material, meditation capabilities and other immersive experiences.
