Dr. Edward Kim, one of America’s preeminent oncologists, has been appointed the head physician to lead City of Hope’s new cancer center in Irvine.

Kim is among the country’s foremost experts in molecular prognoses for lung, head and neck cancers, and has been named a U.S. News and World Report “Top Doctor.” As physician-in-chief, he will lead a team of clinician-scientists in developing new cancer treatments.

The cancer center, expected to open adjacent to the Great Park in 2022, will be the centerpiece of City of Hope’s $1 billion expansion in Orange County. It will be the county’s only hospital to focus exclusively on treating and curing cancer.

Kim most recently served as medical director of clinical trials at the Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina.
