The Backstreet Boys are one of the bestselling music acts of all time, with more than 100 million albums sold. They return to Irvine on June 5 for their DNA World Tour. AJ McLean and Howie Dorough recently shared their thoughts on the upcoming tour.

What can fans expect from the DNA tour?

AJ: From start to finish, this is a perfect show. You just can’t see the combination of intense dance routines and amazing live music in any other show.

What’s your favorite dance number in the show?

AJ: ‘Undone.’ It is a simple number, but it is clean. Because of its simplicity, partnered with the light-up microphones, it makes it larger than life. Sometimes simple is just better.

How does it feel to hear your fans screaming at your live concerts?

AJ: It is amazing. I often will remove my in-ear monitor to just feel the moment and hear them singing along. I take it in, I take in the love. To still be getting that reaction after 27 years is incredible.

How have you kept the group together all these years?

Howie: We are straight with each other and lay it all out on the floor. We value one another and realize that together we can move mountains.

Do you still get nervous on stage?

Howie: Yes, I get nervous every time. I realize that I need those nerves to keep me on my toes. I have learned how to channel this energy into pushing me to a better performance.
