FREEKS Ride 

Join this challenging docent-led mountain-bike ride on June 10. Climb State Spur to Cathedral Rock, then descend into Fremont Canyon while passing some of OC’s most spectacular geological formations. You’ll see Mini-Moab, Sierra Peak and a Tecate cypress forest before a descent into Black Star Canyon. ocparks.com/events.

Nighttime Bugs 

Explore biodiversity on The Irvine Ranch through insects. You’ll use blacklights (low-energy, low-frequency UV lights) to attract them, then examine them and record your findings. Bring a camera, as you’ll see creatures you normally don’t see. Limestone Canyon, 8-10 p.m. June 10. letsgooutside.org/activities.

Trail Stewardship 

Get up close and personal with the trails you use. You’ll team up with other volunteers to clear footpaths, prune vegetation and rebuild eroded sections of trails.
