For the second consecutive year, Irvine earned top honors on a national list of the best cities in which to raise a family.

Irvine was ranked No. 1 in Southern California and No. 3 in the United States by personal finance website WalletHub, which evaluated over 180 cities on 45 metrics that included affordability, education, air quality, public safety and recreational opportunities. The metrics drew on statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Irvine earned the nation’s top scores in the category of “health and safety,” based on air and water quality, hospital access and crime rates. It placed third nationally in the category of “education and child care” for its world-class public schools and summer learning opportunities.

This marks the fifth consecutive year that Irvine has been named one of the top three cities in America in which to raise a family.
